sad day
I woke up this morning and found my lawnmower blennie had died sometime during the night.
I am really bummed as he was my favorite fish in the tank. I noticed he was breathing rapidly yesterday evening and didnt want to eat, usually he is the first one to come out and get food. The other two fish seem fine. I will have to do a full water parameter test when I get home tonight. Aside from testing the water does anyone have an idea what would cause the rapid breathing? Should I replace him? I now have only two fish in a 65g tank. Are there any issues with having very few fish in a tank as far as a biological balance is concerned?Nate |

Re: sad day
Could be a number of reasons why he died.
You're on the right track with checking water params. I would check everything out, give it a few weeks and a few water changes and then add another one if you want. I see no issues with having a couple of fish. You run into problems when you have to many. |

Re: sad day
A fish that breaths hard could be because of various reasons, here are a couple that come to mind.
1. Low O2, such as oxygen depleted from not rinsing new carbon, excessive heat and low flow. 2. Tank buddies picking on him. 3. High Nitrates. 4. Problem with excessive CO2 (Possible Reactor malfunction) Low PH at night? 5. Disturb your sand bed lately? Sorry to here about your little friend. |

Re: sad day
Awww so sorry to hear of your loss Nate. I love blennies and gobies. I recently got a bicolor blenny and love her! If you decide to replace your little guy, that might be one you would enjoy. My dragon goby is pretty cool too, very peaceful, and loves to sift the sand. Good luck with everything.
