AquaPod Anyone?
hey guys,
i just filled my new 24gal aquapod with substrate on the bottom. first tank so i'm a huge beginner so bear with me please. the salinity is perfect and so is the nitrate and nitrite at the moment. first off if anyone has this tank, is the filter system very quiet? the flat headed nozzles are shooting out water at a steady stream(not that hard though). the water has cleared up significantly but is still a bit murky. is the top of the water supposed to overflow into the filter section in the back of the tank? also i am experiencing smudge marks on the inside of the tank that a sponge doesn't seem to fix. there is only water and substrate in the tank at the moment. any suggestions for that would be great. i would appreciate any help, thanks guys |

Re: AquaPod Anyone?
Hey, I just setup one of those for my dad in June. Which one do you have? The compact fluorescent hood or the metal halide one? If the CF one, then be prepared for heat issues. Currently we have to leave the door up to allow heat to escape.
His filter system is quiet, but the two fans on top are a little loud if you are next to them. I took off the divided flow nozzles to increase the flow in the tank. Also put in one of those nano Koralia pumps. That seems good enough for now. Also you may want to remove all or most of the baffle pieces to allow more flow to the back/overflow. What kind of substrate did you use? It should be cleared up by tomorrow, just clean the acrylic of any residue. HTH

Re: AquaPod Anyone?
thanks for the reply, i have the CF and ive noticed the temperature of the water spiking very rapidly. i've also started to do the hood thing you mentioned. the substrate is aragonite from carib-sea. i did take out most of the blockers in the filter but i left the flat nozzles in. what is this pump that you mentioned?

Re: AquaPod Anyone?
I emailed the manufacturer to get advice on the heating issues and they recommended; a) to replace the stock pump that came with the tank for a more efficient one, and b) to reverse one of the fans on the hood. That way one is pulling in cool air and the other pushing out hot air.
I tried neither as the door trick did fix the issue. I will wait to see how it all acts in cooler months before I do anything else. That is the same substrate kind I used in my dads nano. Good stuff. Here is that link for the pumps: Water Pumps & Wavemakers: Hydor Koralia Water Circulation Pumps

Re: AquaPod Anyone?
No problem, the extra pump just adds more circulation to the system. I wanted more flow and I really like the Koralia pumps. They allow you to point the flow just about anywhere you want.
What are you planning on keeping in your tank? Reef (corals), FOWLR, or fish only? I also got 2x 16lb boxes of nano live rock. That was plenty of rock.

Re: AquaPod Anyone?
ive already got about 12lbs of cured rock with some small polyps starting to multiply. im planning on adding more rock as i get better situated and comfortable with my new system. planning on some cleaners(crabs&snails) a firefish, clownfish, and a damsel or two.
