Ok guys im totally new to salvaging a bleaching Mont. Capricorn (or any sps for all that matters) This is a "freebie" that a not so LFS gave me but (course i just bought $100 coral [img]/ubb/eek.gif[/img] )

Here are some pics of the coral I was thinking of just cutting right above the white part (how far up?). Let me know if you guys have had success and how plez [img]/ubb/biggrin.gif[/img]

Did you just get this M. capricornis? And was it in this condition when you got it? And are you sure it's bleaching and not white band disease?

YES i did Ninong....I bought 7 other corals too....he through this in as a Freebie [img]/ubb/biggrin.gif[/img] we both knew something was wrong, I just want to try and save it.

Yes it was in the exact same condition.

Nope im not sure. I have no idea to tell you the truth....Im just so used to the norm (I know its bad labeling) as the term "bleaching" [img]/ubb/confused.gif[/img]

P.S. - I think it should be in a separate Q-tank, if you have one. Otherwise, I think you should have "passed" on the freebie. [img]/ubb/wink.gif[/img]

I really can't tell for sure what it is from the pictures.

If it's White band disease, there can be a slow tissue necrosis or a rapid necrosis, depending on the strain.

No one know what causes it.

Since it was a feebie anyway.. get it out....

The only thing I know that you can do for it is an antiseptic bath with a mild lugols solution.

you might want to frag some of the healthy areas and separate that as well.

where did you get the freedie? Mo maybe it was just stressed from shipping? But ime I've never been able to save sps with lugols once the bleaching started. lsp I have but this is my experiance not saying its not possible. I would try to dip and frag. But if its wild caught I bet no luck

well, bleaching and tissue necrosis are two different things. If its losing alot of tissue, I'd get rid of it, but if not, I'd hold it for a couple days and see if it looks like there might be recovery. Many times SPS will rot away in the often high NO3 water that are at the stores. I have nursed back monti's that are worse looking than that.
