Talking plz help first time salt set up

hi my name is cameron and currently am in the U.S. Air force in washinton D.C.

now that the intro is out of the way i am looking to set up a 10 gallon reef tank to get my feet wet i have a 75g cichlid tank that has been running for about 6 months and i am wanting to turn it in to a reef but do not want to put the money in the equip and the livestock if it is going to die on me.

so i am looking to pick up a nano cube if i can't piece together a 10g rectangle tank and looking to put about a 2.5in bed of live sand and about 10 lbs live rock (cured) but before i pick all of this up i want to know if i need more or less of either? and how long do i wait to place a clean up crew in and what would a clean up crew consist of for a tank that size?

pretty much looking for a basic step by step instructions

    thank you so much

    cameron

This may be a long shot, but i figure since we are both from DC/MD you could help me out! So I just started my own 12g nano cube, with stock everything, currently cycling with about 8lbs of live rock and 7lbs of filler rock and 10lbs of live sand. its day 2 now and most of my water quality is good, 0 Nitrites, 8.4pH, 0-0.05 Nitrates and like .5 Ammonia level. My salidity is redic. high though, will this come down itself as it continues to cycle?

Any help would be great man. Thanks!

    10g is so small. Try a 20g long. I've run a 20g long, and it was enough of a pain, I can't imagine a 10g.

10's are tough. If you go the 10 route get an ATO (automatic top-off) water system. My quarintine is a 10 and I have an ATO on it. Your salinity will be all over the board without one. With all the right gear and experience you can keep a 10. Petco has 29gal tanks on sale all the time. Start there.

You know, if you research enough i think you would be fine with the 10 gallon.
Just don't put many fish in there, 1 would be enough, and some hermits maybe or a shrimp.
You will need to get a protein skimmer, live rock, live sand or just plain sand made for aquariums and that are not based in silica, it really depends on what you want.
If you buy a bio cube, nano cube, etc, it already comes with the basic equipment, and lights.
Would not recommend corals on a 10 gallon.
And of course don't forget to research on the type of cycle you will be doing as well as know their pros and cons.
    Don't forget your test kits!
Would you live in a moderate size house with no bathroom? if not, then do what is right! Let your tank cycle for one month. Respect the fish! ;)

Yeah, the guy probably owns a 100 gallon by now.
