I have what appear to be Zoanthids growing as hitchhikers on some of my LR. Are these things good or bad? In my research, some people call them corals and others call them anemones. Which are they?

If they are zoanthids they are good. I have had 2 pieces of live rock that started out with on a couple on them and over a years time have completly cover the rock. One rock is cover in a bright orange and the other is a bright green.
zoanthids are colonial anemones, many people call them corals though. To me they would be a pest because I dont want them stinging the crap out of my sps.

this may shed some light!

If I remember correctly these are non-photosynthetic animals and require feeding of DT or something of the sort I think they will take brine shrimp. They are hardy and relatively easy to keep. Try spot feeding htem a little squirt of frozen brine or DT to see if they take. These are really great looking additions to your tank, what color are yours? HTH

Oh wait looks like I was thinking of the wrong thing they are photosynthetic... but they do not have to have intense lighting to flourish. PC's will do just fine, and no direct feeding required they take what they need out of the water when you feed the fish... you do have fish right?

Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall down an open manhole and die.

I call them button polyps. Mine do respond to light. In fact some look entirely diffefferent when given more light. They will feed on the flake food or the brine. I didnt know they would sting the sps, glad I saw that chromis!
The ydo grow wildlyu and take over at times. They are very hardy. The first coral I propagated. Actually its hard to kill em, LOL
Two pics of same coral colony below, second closer to light
