Transporting Invertebrates from the Sea to Home

    Hello again,
Finally i made a reef aquarium. I got some different fishes and some corals. Now i know where i can get corals. There are so many corals in our sea. Very beautiful. I asked the people who catch lobsters. They stay under the sea for 3 hours , and they use compressor and air pipe to breath under sea. Very interesting. I'll upload the pics tomorrow. I have the AVI file, but i don'tknow how to upload. so i'll tak pics and upload it.
Brain corals, cup corals(different colours), mushroomsand sea fans r alot in our area. Because nobody keep marine aquarium and not allow to export.
So i can get what i want now.
First time i took some corals and all dead, cause i don't know how to bring back home. It took 7 hours to get home. Second time , i rap them with the wet news paper adn put it in the box with some ice bottles. It works some %. Next time i have to try another way.
If somebody know how to carry themm pls let me know!!
    Thanks in advance
    Kyaw

I moved your post from the fish forum to the reef forum in the hopes you might get some advice.

I don't think wrapping invertebrates, like corals in newspaper is the best way to transport them. The ice water bottles sounds like a good way to maintain some temperature control.

However, I should think that you don't want to remove the corals from the water at all. You want to bag them while they are still under water, using the water they are in. Then, transport the corals in the bags with water in the bags to your home.

    Others may have better suggestions.

    Dear Chuck,
I am going to get 12VDC airpump this time. And going to bring back with the plastic buckets with water.
Anyway attached pic is the some survive of second trip.
I test the calcium is only 280ppm now. I'll try to raise up slowly using Ca Cl2 stock solution. Does it really need to raise the Ca up to 420 ppm???
    Ph-8.42
    Sal-1.023
    Nitrite-0
    Nitrate-10ppm
    Nh3-o

    Thanks

Hmmm, looking at your test results (aside from Calcium) salinity looks to be a tad on the lower side. Unless of course you use natural sea water from your area and that is what salinity is.
Also, you definitely want to raise Calcium levels to at least 380-400ppm and it would be interesting to see what the Alkalinity is like in your aquarium. Judging from the image you posted it looks like it's either in the cycle process (diatoms are everywhere) or there is something in your system that needs tweaking.
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

    Thanks for the comment,
(diatoms are everywhere)??? Is it good or bad for the tank??? I am very new to marine tank. Please suggest me what to do. I'll measure the alkalinity today and post.
I just started 10 months ago. Lost alot of fishes because of lack of knowledge, equipments and accessories.(Also difficult to get a fish, cannot buy). Now try to understand from this forum.
    Thanks again!!
