    Re: Parrothead's 55 gallon Reef

    Thanks Man,

Waiting to hear back from him on the ricordea, I think I'll go with the colt, xenia, and a ricordea to start with, then let it settle for awhile, he also said he had some other larger pieces that if the offer is right he'll let them go as he wants to go heavy sps. So who knows, as soon as I hear from him I'll schedule a time to get the above 3 and see what else he has. catch up with you later, got a break in the rain, got to smear some wax before the next round rolls through.

Thanks again for the voice of wisdom

    Tanks.
    Robert

    Re: Parrothead's 55 gallon Reef

Another quick simple( I Hope)question, is with the before mentioned Items, what if anything should I be dosing the tank with, have read sites stating Iodine, trace elements, etc. any thoughts are welcome.

    Tanks,

Don't dose what you can't test for. Regular water changes should take care of anything you need, especially if all you are going to have is softies for a while.

    Re: Parrothead's 55 gallon Reef

    Cigars All Around,

I added my first 3 babies today, the star polyp doesn't count, came from the bio-cube when I set the 55 up, they are only frags but they are so cool.

    1 Pom Pom Xenia
    1 Colt Coral
1 kinda light greenish colored zoo(appears to have about 16 polyps on it)

I'm gonna let them settle down and get use to their new home before snapping a couple of pics, will try to get pics up today or tomorrow, depends on their mood.

Paid 10 for the xenia, 15 for the colt, and the guy threw the zoo's in on the house, major dig. I'm stoked, Hey I'm just happy to have added the first official corals to my tank.

    Tanks,
    Robert

    Re: Parrothead's 55 gallon Reef

Here are the new baby pictures for you viewing pleasure, and look at the time, way before race time, enjoy.

They seem to be doing well, but it has only been about 18 hours, I keep checking on them every 5 minutes or so. Can't wait till they start growing. Especially the colt coral and the xenia.

    Not bad for 25.00

Good job Robert!!!! I am going to make a bold prediction here, once they do start growing, you are gonna wish you had a 300 gallon tank.

    Re: Parrothead's 55 gallon Reef

    Thanks Charlie,

As far as the bold prediction goes, I thought that was the whole idea, The wife falls in love with the softies, they get big, you tell the wife that a bigger tank is needed to house the darling little creatures or they have to go to the lfs, and she caves in and vola, bigger tank

It sounds good on paper anyway

I will probably go see the guy again later in the week or next weekend, depending on how much work I can get in this week, he has a beautiful, and I do mean beautiful Hammer Coral, some really nice ricordea, some duncans(seriously doubt that I will have that kinda work come in this week), I could probably get a serious amount of coral here at a really good deal.

But in the humble words of my great sage, "Rome wasn't built in a day and neither is a reef", so I will be patient and go really, really slow.

    Re: Parrothead's 55 gallon Reef

He might do that, I am going to e-mail him tomorrow or Tuesday and see if he would frag it.

I hope so, because 1) I believe with all my heart that the whole piece would be to big for my tank, he's got a 180 and it looks big in his tank. 2) He will probably want more than I can currently afford.

    But I will check.

I've been kicking around the idea of adding maybe another 25 lbs of rock, especially for the left side of the tank, as you mentioned once these guys start growing they will get huge, especially the colt. So if I leave him where he is currently that will center piece the right side of the tank. So I'll need to build the left side up so I'll have places for future additions. Just a thought.

    Robert

    Re: Parrothead's 55 gallon Reef

Here's an idea. Put the colt on the side where you think you are short. That colt will get big, let it highlite that side, and you can build on the other side???
