    Re: Parrothead's 55 gallon Reef

Mike, Charlie, Gene, and anyone else that would like to chime in

I am posting a pic of my xenia frag that has been in the tank now since 6/6/09, everybody is doing awesome, the pic I'm posting here shows a very thin piece of meat between the 2 primary stalks. Here is the situation, I have never fragged a coral in my life, the small piece of rock that the xenia came on is actually broke just under above mentioned piece of meat. I have some brand new singled edged razor blades that I'm sure would make a nice clean cut, would it be advisable to cut this and have 2 or wait a couple more weeks and see if they sep. naturally, you can also see a couple smaller stalks starting to form on the smaller stalk of the 2 main ones. see pic and let me know your thoughts.

    Tanks,
    Robert

P.S. Mike, I've talked to the lady with the 4 Bulb T-5 fixture, it's mine if still available mid week, can't afford till then. Might see how Monday work goes and put a deposit down to take if off the market till weeks end. Hope she goes for it. Also I will need to talk with you(per Charlie) about the best bulbs to use

Let it separate naturally, you don't need to go hacking on anything in there yet.

    Re: Parrothead's 55 gallon Reef

    Thanks Charlie,

You are the boss, as I've told you before and I'm sure I will many more times, this tank would not have made it this far without you and a few others around here, I did get to looking at the pic and the xenia itself and it does appear that at the lower right of the smaller main stalk there is actually a baby stalk, that is not attached to anything other than the rock. I'll leave it be, I promise

    Tanks,
    Robert

If that stuff keeps growing, you are probably gonna regret the day you ever thought of Xenia my friend.

Naw, I'll just use that as an excuse for a bigger tank, remember thats how we planned it.

Here's a couple pics of the other 2 babies

    Re: Parrothead's 55 gallon Reef

I concur with Charlie, leave it be.

As for bulb choice, there are many, but a simple very effective one is a 50/50 mix of ATI Blue + and Aquablue Specials. (2 whites, 2 blues.) Those 2 bulbs cover all the bases for corals, and I think the color is just right. You may prefer more blue, or more white, and it is a simple swap of 1 bulb for the other. (Keep It Simple Stupid!, that works more for me then any other cliche!)

    Thanks Mike

The good Lord willing and if the creek don't rise, I should have the T-5 set-up by this coming saturday, I can't wait.

I did find out that it has one solid reflector shaped around the bulbs vs. individual reflectors which I did find for 19.95 each plus shipping, will see what it looks like and go from there.

Thanks for the advice and wisdom.

    Alas Boys,

Back to shopping, she got a local buyer for the T-5 set-up, sold it this afternoon, I just love this economy, less than a year ago I'd made the 140 before noon and still have lunch money. Gotta Luv It, I'll find another. Or I might come with something better, we will see.

    Re: Parrothead's 55 gallon Reef

    New Resident as of today

A very nice Maroon Clown, good size, and he does have a touch of Gold in his stripes so I may have gotten lucky, will have to wait and see. Before Charlie logs on at lunch time and gets me, I'll have a picture of him up later today. Because we all know if Charlie is participating in a thread and there is a new addition, it had better be followed by pics shortly there after.

Here's the pictures, didn't take him long to find out he is the biggest fish in this particular pond. Didn't hang in the corner long.

    Come On

One Hour and 15 minutes, Let the dude get use to his new home, He had to chase a couple of Damsels around to show them who is the boss, and to think the "about time" comes from a man whose tag line says "Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither is a reef"

In the middle of a detail job here at the house, you gonna be around later?

    Re: Parrothead's 55 gallon Reef

    Oh,

It was a tough choice, there was a very, very nice Coral Beauty right next him in the adj. cube, for 29.95 vs. 34.95 for the clown, but I'm holding out for a Flame Angel, it was a very tough choice, I stood there for about 30 mins. trying to decide, well can't say that, my lfs has hired a couple of cuties, that was somewhat of a distraction, but it wasn't easy.

    Re: Parrothead's 55 gallon Reef

You are in God's Country, I can think of bunches of cool things to do if I lived in your part of the world, I do miss it, I really starting to get very bored with FLA. Very Bored.

Catch up with you later tonight.

I still think an hour and 15 minutes is an acceptable amount of time for posting a pics.

    Tanks,
    Robert

P.S. My 10 year old daughter(Brain is going on 21)just asked if I only talked to you, or if I talked to other "fish geeks", the younger generation has no clue about priorities gotta love them, they have to take care of me in my old age, maybe, wife sees the receipt from the lfs today, I'll probably be room temp by morning, But she won't, I ate the evidence

I may be in God's country, but it is 20 degrees over my limit. I am gonna stay in the freaking house and stay cool when I can.

Are you able to stick your hand in the tank without the clown thinking you are the enemy?

Gotta munch some din-din, later man.

He ain't that brave yet(Wipe my forehead as we don't have a symbol for that yet), now I did have one that if you walked up to the tank he would come right up front and dare you to stick your hand in there, he was a feisty little dude, kinda took after a pitbull, because he would nibble when you stuck your hand in the tank, Gotta love em'. Enjoy your dinner, I've got a very early day tomorrow so I'll catch up with you tomorrow evening or over the weekend, if your not around "HAPPY FORTH OF JULY".

    Please don't burn Montana down
