    Re: Parrothead's 55 gallon Reef

You are most certainly welcome, and thanks for the thumbs,

I really like the way it's coming together, still want to get a little more rock I think, looking at Sid's, Tim's, and Shrink's(which is absolutely stunning) tanks and its got me wanting to do more with my tank, as far as the rock, I'm thinking maybe another 40 lbs gulf, or 20 - 30 lbs of some fuji - as you said the fuji is not as dense, so lb for lb it would proably balance out to get the same look.

All hinges on the move thing, that is still way up in the air and not sure when it's gonna come down. Knowing that would be a big help.

    Glad you like the pics,

    Tanks,
    Robert

    Re: Parrothead's 55 gallon Reef

Just out of curiousity, what do you think the chances of mainly the rock holding up to say a 4 day trip, submerged in tank water in rubbermaid containers with battery operated airpumps to keep some water movement, just kicking an idea around.

    Re: Parrothead's 55 gallon Reef

Rent hell, I gonna own it, Colo. Springs area will require mass family outings, it will come in handy again. And with just me in the truck, one or two stops per day, fuel and nature calls, proably shave the time down to 2, maybe 2.5 days max., per mapquest it's only 1700 miles and approx 28 hours drive time, I can do it

    Tanks,
    Robert

Average 71 mph, 12 hours per day, can do it on one motel, cooler with sandwich fixins' and colas(do the Dew), thermos for coffee. On the road again

It is really tough to average 71mph, but it can be done. Hope you got a radar detector!!!!!

    Re: Parrothead's 55 gallon Reef

Please correct me if I'm off, it's been a while since I did a road trip, but isn't the speed limit on most interstates @ 70 - 75 mph, and they usually give you 5 over, but will have the laser/radar detector in place for the trip, no sense giving it to them

    Robert

    Re: Parrothead's 55 gallon Reef

You are correct, but to average over 70 for a whole day...................... see what I mean? Average moving time you may be able to accomplish that, but with rest stops and such, the best I have been able to do is 65.

    Re: Parrothead's 55 gallon Reef

That would make the trip 26.15 hours of drive time at your best, yeah 2 nights are gonna have to be the rule, and besides, with only a half day on day 3 I will be able to get the tank up and running, less the sand, that might be a prob. unless I shot to Tampa, picked up the sand, keep it in the bags and hope it last 60 hours. Or, as you told Sid, save a handful of established to see and get me a boat load of aragonite for the rest.

    Tanks

    Re: Parrothead's 55 gallon Reef

Here's an idea................... See if your local LFS guy will ship the stuff to you. That way there are no worries about keeping the stuff 2.5 days in your rig. One less thing to worry about while driving!!!!
