Post How to harvest macro algae ?

Hey all...

Our in-sump refugium is getting overgrown... its like a large clump of intertwined fishing line... its got various kinds of algae...

How to harvest? just rip them out? do u rip them all out then replant some shoots? or just thin it out?

BTW we use it as a nutrient export system...

Thanks for the replies.

Hi CNT
Welcome to Reefland !

All I do is use a very good (sharp) pair of scissors and trim it back...leaving the rooted area. Might want to call your LFS and see if they want to buy some of it HTH

Out root system is in the sandbed, so I usually just start at one of the ends and gently pull it off the rock. This takes roots, too, which are helpful if it is going into another system. Our LFS gives credit, and a lot of them do. Sort of a cash crop, as it were.
