What to do with canister filter

My wife and I decided to keep my our tank which is great news for me, but decided to sell our largest expense. I will hate to see her go but our 7 year old is just too expensive... just kidding. But now really. I have a Eheim 2215 canister filter that I am not using, what would be a good use for it? I thought about using it to hold carbon, and every few weeks change out the carbon, but I dont know. Does anyone have any other uses for a canister filter? Maybe it would be best just to sell it? Any ideas?

    Nate

Maybe let your 7 year old hit you over the head with it for making that comment about her. ;-)

Glad you decided to keep your tank. At least for now.

    Nate,

Unless you can get a real good price selling it I would definitely keep it for carbon, or ferric oxide usage. It'll provide additional water movement and keep some nasties out as well. That's just about the best use for these filters anyway...

I am glad as well you guys decided to keep your tank. Good luck to you!
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

I've read where some people run the canisters empty... Supposedly a variety of filter feeders will take up residence inside over time.
