Did you guys hear about the tiny (1 lb) octopus at the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium that nearly drained her tank and all of the others connected to it this past Thursday night?
Most of the news reports were totally inaccurate in describing exactly what she did and how she did it. Some reports said that she "pulled a plug" and others said she "closed a valve."
If you want to see exactly what she did, watch this video clip.

Both great clips George., I,m watching the second one and all I see is this girl running on a machine and I,m thinking what the heck.

I guess I should have warned people that they make you watch a commercial first. I guess you hung around long enough to see the clip about the octopus pushing the water tubing out of its tank and flooding the floor, right?
Looking at the way that tank was set up, I can't believe that people who are supposed to be professionals didn't realize that that was a stupid idea for an octopus tank. Everybody -- well, almost everybody -- knows that you don't leave any holes whatever in an octopus tank or an eel tank. In the case of an octopus, it can squeeze its body through any hole large enough to accomodate its beak.
That Santa Monica Pier Aquarium looks like one of the typical tourist traps that you find on "piers" like that. I'm not sure who was in charge of plumbing their tanks or what level of expertise their staff has. There's an aquarium at Pier 39 in San Francisco that I took my two godsons to see once. It was a big disappointment -- a complete waste of time and not much more than a tourist trap (IMO).
