    Calcium Levels

I discovered tonight that my calcium is around 340 ppm. I add calcium weekly, however, it doesn't seem to be keeping up. I've thought about making a calcium drip, though I don't even know how to make one.
Any ideas on how to raise the calcium level safely, but quickly? I'm pretty sure my Goniopora, Mushrooms, and SPS are suffering from this.

    Thanks,
    Brooks

How are you adding calcium right now? Instead of adding weekly, add daily until the levels get to where you want them. Once you get them there, you have to add at the same rate your inhabitants use it up. The best way would be to add daily so it doesn't fluctuate as much.

Dripping kalk at night is a good way to maintain calcium and alk. I also like to use Seachem products for fixing it up. Reef Advantage for calcium & Reef Builder for alk. Make any changes slowly and remember one directly effects the other.

Using a good salt for water changes helps also, depending on how much ones tank is consuming. I still like plain old IO salt but add calcium and magnesium to the fresh water, {in a measured amount}, before mixing in the salt or use a salt mix thats high in them like Trpoic Marin reef pro or Seachems Reef Chrystals

For now though, just to bump it up, I still like the Reef Advantage or Kents Turbo Calcium or something of that sort.

You could also maintain your calcium and alk. with one of the two parts, Seachem, as mentioned or the liquid ones like Two Little Fishies C-Balance or ESV 2-part, both of which I have used with good success.

I have made kalk drippers from old ESV kalk powder containers or anything similar. Usually through in about a tablespoon of kalk powder for a gallon container. Mix well and let it sit until the sediment is at the bottom, {which is why the dripper outlet is up a bit}. I drip whatever is needed for replacement water. Bets to keep an eye on the ph levels also, as a good kalk mix can raise them but I have never found it to be a problem.

Lost of good articles out there on dripping kalk and other calcium meathods. Let me know if you cant find them and perhaps I can find some for you.
    Doug
