Hi, just got a used 80 gal, it still had wet sand in it. It has been torn down for about 2 months. Just wondering if I can re-use the sand, or should I start fresh.
thanks

Hi JettStorm,
To be honest, I wouldn't risk it and start with fresh sand.Hi, just got a used 80 gal, it still had wet sand in it. It has been torn down for about 2 months. Just wondering if I can re-use the sand, or should I start fresh.
Kind regards,
Gene.

I agree with Zhenya. Is the savings worth the risk?

Hi JettStorm,
Do you have any idea how long the tank was set up previously?
Was it used as a fish-only aquarium or as a reef aquarium?
If it was used as a fish-only aquarium, do you know for certain whether copper medicine was ever used in the tank?
Exactly what is the composition of this "wet sand?" Is it aragonite sand or quartz sand?
Assuming it is aragonite sand, is it a fine particle sand?
It's always safer to start over with new sand if a tank has been down for some time but knowing the answers to the above questions would allow us to give you a better assessment of the risk, if any, in using this sand.
