    need worm ID

Ok so I thought I got this guy out but I guess not. Trying to find out if it is bad.
I know most are a benefit but I want to make sure I don't have a bad one.

It was orangeish red for about 3/4" and the rest that I could see was a dark brown/ black
Had bristles like a brush sorry could get a pic.

Doesn't look like pics I have found bristles were all over not just on the sides and was round like a earth worm.

    Thanks

    Hi stkmach,

How long has your tank been set up? Did your live rock come from the Indo-Pacific or the Gulf of Mexico/Caribbean?

The most common bristleworm that shows up in our tanks is Eurythoe complanata, a beneficial scavenger. Another one that is occasionally found, especially on rock from the Gulf of Mexico/Caribbean, is Hermodice carunculata, which is definitely a predator on a lot of different corals and anemones. H. carunculata has different color forms but most are similar to your description.

    E. complanata is much more likely to hide out during the daytime and only come out at night. When it does venture forth during the daytime to grab food that lands on the substrate, it will retract very, very quickly if it sees you. H. carunculata is much more likely to remain out in the daytime.

Hermodice looks much more like a reddish-orange wooly caterpillar than does Eurythoe.

Ok from your discription it sound more like the second one. Not sure where the rock came from, I bought it off a guy who bought the rock in a package deal.

Every time I have seen this guy it is in the day time and stays out for a while when I look at it.

Tank has been set up for over a little over a month after the rock cured, and I just bought a arrow crab in case there are more.

If it is the second one than I should get it out, correct?

Some of the online vendors sell bristleworm traps. I have no experience with them because I have never had any of the bad ones.

My LFS mentioned I could sink a pop bottle with some food inside it to trap worms. Leave it overnight. You may need to place a few small rocks in it to keep it down.
