    Exclamation Anemone in Trouble

My rose bubbletip anenome has changed since I bought it this Sunday. It use to be more bubbly and thicker, now it is very thin and seems more shriveled up. I don't know what to do or what has caused it. Maybe shock is what i'm thinking cause one I did just had it change tanks and I did just do a water change yesterday...Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Rose Bubbletip anemone in trouble??

I have three different one's in my tank. From personal experience, all three do this from time to time, but mostly if I have forgotten to feed them for a few days. Once I feed them they bounce right back to their usual "bubbly" self.

It was right after I fed them though. He is doing good now though for the most part but his "tenticles" are spread out pretty far only different thing. I think that it did that so the food could get to its mouth better?

Yeah don't stress it too much. I did at first when they would shrivel up to almost nothing, but after six months of this this they are still doing well. From experience it takes alot for them to die off and when they do, they will detatch from their location and just float around...good luck

This thread was posted in the Marine Fish Disease and Health Forum. I have moved it into the Reef Forum where those with reefs and invertebrates might have additional information and be able to provide more help.

    Good luck!

Twice a week would be about right.

I feed my anemone twice a week, but it still shrivels up to just a black ball. Should I feed him more often or what because I don't think this is normal?

One of the things I learned from Anthony Calfo was to make sure to feed it the right size food for the anemone. The size of food will of course depend on the anemone. The important idea is to make sure the food is not too large. Just because the anemone will swallow doesn't mean it's able to keep it down.

What I did at first was to keep the anemone in a closed container (allowing for flow and light of course) and make sure the anemone is not spitting the food back out a few hours later. When I first started, my 3 inch RBTA was spitting out food about the size two pencil earasers. I had to decrease the size in half before it stopped spitting back out the food.

Good suggestion. I never have a clue how much to feed my corals or what size to cut the food to.

    Re: Anemone in Trouble

Well I don't think the size is the problem because I use Rod's Fish food, don't know if anyone uses that but it has a mixture of a lot of stuff in it. I take it out of the bag then just throw it into a shotglass of water and mix it around so it's little bits of food. I then take a turkey baseter and spit it out straight into the anemone slowly.

Anything wrong with that or any other suggestions?
