Group Buy On Apogee Mq200 Par Meter

This is to announce a GROUP BUY on Apogee's newest model of quantum meter (PAR meter).

The MQ200 replaces the older models. It has logging capabilities and can be calibrated both by electric and sunlight.

Some of you may remember that ReefCast put together a Group Buy on the Apogee Par Meter about 3 months ago. I didn't take advantage of it at the time and have regretted it ever since.

I took a quick poll in my local forum and found that there was interest in another group buy from others as well.

I have confirmed with Apogee that they would be willing to discount the meter again for another group buy as long as we can get together a minimum order of 40 units.

Below is a copy of an email I received from Apogee:

This email certifies that we have negotiated pricing with you regarding a group-buy of our quantum meters. The pricing for this quantity is deeply discounted to 40% off of the 2009 retail price of $349 for the MQ-200 with the conditions that one shipment and one payment be made by yourself, Chuck Harrison. Please let me know if you have any questions or need anything else.

Due to some issues last time with Apogee individually shipping the units out, they are not willing to ship the individual orders this time around. I do not know what those issues were and did not ask. The deal this time is one order, one payment, one shipping address. We will get a 40% discount with a minimum of 40 units.

This is the meter that you would want to use for reefing in order to tell if your bulbs are going old, for help in placement of new corals within your tank, etc.

A 40% discount will bring the price of this unit to $209.40.
That will get all units to me. I will then have to turn around and ship out the individual orders. Instead of bringing on a migraine trying to figure out each persons charges I figure that we could just go with a flat fee that will take care of everyone. Adding on a shipping charge of $10.60 will take care of the shipping charges and the other charges that I personally will have to cover. Gas, tape, paypal charges, etc. So this brings the cost of the unit to $220 for everyone. I do not plan on making any profit on this endeavor.

HERE ARE THE DETAILS: (this assumes that we are able to get 40 people that wish to purchase this item)

    ITEM: Apogee MQ-200
    COST: $220 (includes shipping)
    CLOSING DATE: April 1, 2009 - 5:00 PM EST

To make things easy on myself I will only accept PayPal payments.
If you don't have an account it's easy enough to sign up for one.

SEND PAYMENT OF $220 TO: harrisonc@bellsouth.net
In the comments section write MQ200

    FAQ:
    Who am I?
I am just a hobbyist that missed out on the last group buy for this item. I'm a Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service and a member in good standing of FMAS.

How can I trust you with my money?
As with any transaction that involves money, you need to CYA. Paying through PayPal gives you recourse for dispute for one. Secondly, I would highly recommend that you pay for the item with a credit card through PayPal. This way you can always reverse the charges if need be.

You can read about PAR METERS here: Advanced Aquarist's Online Magazine - Product Review: A Comparison of Two Quantum Meters - Li-Cor v. Apogee

and here: Apogee Instruments: Quantum sensors, light meters, infrared temperature sensors

Once again - we need 40 units to make this happen.
PLEASE LET EVERYONE YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS OFFER.
COPY A LINK TO THIS THREAD IN ANY OTHER FORUMS YOU BELONG TO.
    SPREAD THE WORD................

Once again, the CLOSING DATE for this group buy will be April 1, 2009 at 5:00 PM EST

**** I am hardly ever on this forum. Any questions for me will be answered on the official thread on Reef Central or by email to harrisonc@bellsouth.net

I mean no disrespect by this post and am not attempting to divert folks to another forum. This Group Buy is just simply a good deal for all involved no matter what forum(s) you frequent.

That's a very nice unit and, at that price, only about twice as much as a cheapy luxmeter, which is not the same thing at all. It's definitely something I would want if I still had a tank up and running.

I'm interested if you'll ship to Canada. I know that we'll have to arrange shipping. I don't expect the others to cover it since it'll likely be more then within the US.

Do you need 40 orders for the same unit? Not sure if it'd be best to get the seperate sensor. Does the sensor work under water?

Might be easier for my to get it on my own...

Re: Group Buy On Apogee Mq200 Par Meter

You all didn't read the part about me never coming on this forum.
Luckily I did because UNFORTUNATELY I did not think PayPal would charge as much as they do per transaction.

SO - It is necessary to increase the price. Once again, I am not making any money on this deal but the new price for the unit is $228 which includes shipping.

You DO want the MQ200. The MQ100 without the separate sensor would do no good because you can't put the unit under water. You NEED the separate sensor in order to put the sensor underwater. It IS waterproof.

If someone wanted a different unit they would give 40% off of ANY unit. I just need a total of 40 units to get the discount. But I can't see anyone that should really want a different one.

SEIGE: Please send me your address to harrisonc@bellsouth.net and I'll look into what it would take to ship the unit to Canada.

Re: Group Buy On Apogee Mq200 Par Meter

I could be interested, let me toss it around a bit - still a lotta cash for something to use sporadically. I like my 250s (MH) but I liked my old (150w) fixtures much better. Would be curious in what the difference is, etc.
