Presenting my newest acquisition. It's a purple brain, from what I'm told. Looks like one at least. It's cool and I had LFS credit. Let me know what you think!

Joanne,
Sweet! That coral is actually Symphyllia radians(to the best of my knowledge anyways) or more commonly known as "tooth" or "closed brain." Tooth is actually used to name several brainy type corals. Anyways, they do not require a tremendous amount of light, so indirect should be enough. The placement though is the question. The coral usually has meat underneath of it, surrounding the bottom edges of exoskeleton, and it this that makes me place mine on a rock. I dont like to place a coral on the sand or anywhere else, in a way that touches, or even smothers the bottom of the critter. So by looking at your pic, I would say that it is in a good location from what I can ascertain. As usual, all is IMHO. HTH. Good luck with the new beauty. Duncan.

Thanks everyone.Reefhead: I have it placed on the rock because of where it came from. It has a huge rocky base and apparently was collected from right off of a rock. I, too, have another green open brain which is in the sand and loves it. But the base of the gob was far less rocky. This is why I made the decision to place it where I did. Duncan gets the prize for reading my "brain". Ok, lame joke. BTW, thank you so much Duncan for the info! I haven't looked it up in any coral books. I thought it was a closed brain when I bought it. They also had a purple open brain too. But I thought this was much prettier.Scubadude: Tee hee. ![]() ![]() Joanne

No. There's a fish store named Iggy's near my house. I had store credit there and decided to cash it in. But the majority of my tank is filled with Poseidon's corals! And I will be going there hopefully this weekend.
