Aquascaping

I'm thinking about reaquascaping to get more of my rock out of the sand, open up the sandbed, create more caves and ledges for corals, and get more flow around the rocks, and just better circulation in general.

What are the negative effects of doing this after 5 years? Will I hurt much? I may have to drill some rocks or have them out of the water for a while to glue, epoxy, or wire tie stuff together. I haven't quite decided how I'm going to do it yet...probably build a PVC structure and stack/tie the rocks to it. Should I try to do most of the work underwater if possible?

I did the PVC thing with my aquarium and there are definately benefits. But it looks tacky in my opinion. I think I would have chosen against it now. I don't see any problems with re-aquascaping everything. I'd do it a little bit at a time if possible. Guess you could have some coraline die off which is sad times but what can you do? The drilling of rock is not a bad idea. Should help you secure things easier. For my caves I used tonga to hold up flat ledges and dug the tonga into my sandbed. My sun polyps love the caves as do the fish. Best of luck!
