There seem to be some real sand experts here, so thought I would ask this question. I am planning a new reef tank, 55 gal (but 30x20x22"H), mostly Berlin, with sand and live rock in the display and live sand in sump as well.
I want to keep some sand sifters such as the barred goby and a xmas wrasse, Halichoeres ornatissimus, which likes to burrow in the sand. Also, a shrimp goby/shrimp pair. Water movement will be Vortech MP40. Corals mostly soft and LPS.
So, sand is needed in the display, but what kind?
I was reading on the Caribsea site that the Grand Bahamas Biome sand they make would support the animals I want to keep.
What about adding some live sand to get it started? Where should that come from? What do you think of the Grand Bahamas Biome sand choice? Few vendors seem to carry it.
Thanks for the help!
