ive had the clicks in the tank for over a year and never seen a sign of a mantis or pistol shirmp, is there a time when they are sure to show themselves?
found another Mantis (4th one) in fuge last night, put a piece of silverside in tank for crabs and he came shooting out of rock. i gave the other 3 that i found to the LFS, which was awhile back. my question is; is it certain types of mantis that have the coloration, the one i have now is brown, as were two of the earlier shrimp, but one of them was a lime green color, does age or size have anything to do with it? the green was the biggest about 2". thanks...........dave

there is no sure time, ive caught them with lights on and off, took some fishing line and ran it through a piece of straight stiff tubing then tied a piece of silverside to the line and waved it aroung the crevices and nooks of the rock, they come at it fast and you have to be faster on pulling it out, ive also gotten them by isolating the rock that he is in, or the newspaper trick
Newspaper trick?
take the rock that you know he is in and place it on wet newspaper, fold the paper over the rock then turn off lights, wait awhile and quickly pull back paper, he should be out on paper. what i did was to place rock in large plastic tote and put paper over rock, that way you can snatch up rock and he doesnt have a chance to get back to his hole. (caught 2 that way)
