    Talking Talking about anemones...

Snapped this shot of my yellow tang, soon to be 11 years in captivity.
You can't take any pictures of this fish without showing the anemones as well.

    Kind regards,

    Gene.

    Hey, stop saying that!

I'm old enough to be your daddy. :eek3:

And, as I've told you a million times over the past eight years, you should put that poor yellow tang in your other tank.

P.S. -- Speaking of daddies, have you seen my latest post in this thread?

Why should I move him? It has plenty of room to swim now, and today I'm removing more of the clones...

I've seen your posts in that thread, I usually check them as soon as you post (via email as I'm subscribed to that thread ;) ). I don't always login just to read one post, thank god for that feature we have that you can read the new post via email.

Very cool! I always wanted to have a Anemone only tank, how many do you think you have in there?

BTW here's my 20+ inch Purple Tipped Malu and my 13 year old gold Bar Marroon Clown.

    Thank you!
I'm not sure how many are in there, roughly estimating I would say close to a 100, maybe more. I;ve sold some and traded some. I think last month I removed about 25-30 and traded that to a store I frequent. And I sold 5 yesterday as well...

You know, your H.malu looks awful lot like my H.crispa that I gave to that store in 05. Mine was about 20 inches as well and her first hostes was Premnas as well. What are the odds of that, eh?
Do you have a closer shot of the oral disk of yours? I would love to see a closer shot of it. I always liked Heteractis anemones the most of all the other host anemones.
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

You could actually be correct on the type of anemone I have, it was my best guess. So it's an H.crisps?......good to know.

Dang, if your not careful you may find 20/20 knocking at your door investigating you for having a anenome mill

That's truly amazing. Did you start from just one Anemone?

    Hi John,

Yes, I purchased single anemone I think in 02 (if my memory didn't fail me again, that is, it could be 01) for $150.00 from a vendor that is no longer in business. Via my own neglect to remove "incoming" this animals slowly took over...

    Kind regards,

    Gene.

Well, I'm not sure that it is indeed a Heteractis crispa, what I said was that it looks very similar to the one I had. Hence why I asked for a closer shot of the oral disk. There is significant difference in appearance of oral disk between the two species. Tentacles as well appear "flat" compared to the tentacles of H.crispa. These are just my own observations of what I've noticed looking at them at the store. Both grow huge, though...

My favorite anemone is magnificent anemone, H.magnifica, if I ever get to have larger aquarium I may get one. I once saw a healthy specimen in my LFS that were already huge but couldn't even think of buying it.
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

That tank is so cool. How small was the anenome when you first purchased it?

    Re: Talking about anemones...

It really is a cool tank. I think what makes it so cool IMO is how it came from one anemone and shows how cool things get when you keep taking care of your tank for years and years.

    Re: Talking about anemones...

Zhenya isn't available much today so I'll answer your questions for him. He started out with one fairly small RBTA about six or seven years ago. I remember when he posted about his anemone splitting. He was so happy. Then, several months later, there was another splitting. Then another. Within two or three years he had at least a dozen of them in that 110-gal tank and they were killing off his corals, so he removed a few of the anemones and traded them in at the LFS.

Eventually he gave up and just removed the remaining corals to his 75-gal tank. As of two or three years ago, he had only about three dozen or so but they're doubling every several months. Three dozen could become well over 150 in less than two years. He keeps removing them but he can't keep up.

He has pics of this tank in his gallery going back several years if you want to see what it looked like with only a dozen or so anemones and a few corals. I like to call it the anemone that ate zhenya's tank.

    Ninong
