feeding BTA's in an active reef...
I need some advice/opinions on the best food to feed BTA's and how. I've been trying to put a chunk of squid directly into my BTA's grasp - and he seems to love it - grabbing on right away... but it never fails - about 10 seconds later some inhabitant - usually a sally, cleaner shrimp, or hermit - grabs it away and runs off... how do you feed a BTA (and what?) and make sure it gets to eat it's meal in peace?

Feed the other critters first. Give 'em a chunk of food that'll keep them busy for awhile, then feed the anemones and corals. Mine like krill. Actually my anemones take care of themselves pretty well (my maroon clown does the rest) - my biggest probs are with my cleaner shrimp and sailfin tang stealing food from my corals....

I have to agree with Mike. My BTA and LTA grab food and close up so fast nothing has a chance to steal it. My corals are another story..I have to stand guard after feeding because they take so long to ingest a meal, even if I feed the other inhabitants 1st they are finished and looking for more before the corals are done. It helps to fee after lights off, most of the residents find a nook to sleep in and give the corals some peace. Fish wise, the worst thief I have is my Kole tang, he will steal anything from anything if it's eatible.
