Talking Ladies and Gents......Meet TRE.

ok you dont actually get to meet him right now but.....you will soon enough. for some of you that may not know i had a terrible experience the first time i bought a snowflake eel.....he pulled the old hop out of the bag, down the drain method on me....i posted my bad day in the general section just to tell everyone my mistake and got a whole bunch of sympathetic responses......then a few people said get another one just be more careful.....but my budget couldnt sustain it at that time so...another person said why wait if a bunch of us toss in a buck or two you will be able to get the eel. i in no way intended for this to happen but the people on this board were so generous to think of this and do this ......then i had another little set back.....the tank that was set up for TRE.....The Reefland Eel......busted.....at 6:30AM. give or take i dont recall to well right now i am a little tired......but either way it busted and i spent several hours trying to salvage the water i could, scoop out the sand and wrap up the lr. in sw. soaked newspaper......so i had to go buy a new tank and get everything set up in the new tank and i had to monitor the tank for a few weeks to make sure there wouldnt be a spike or anything......today i was feeling a little burning sensation in my pocket because i had a very busy week this week bailing hay and yesterday was pay day so i went and got my newest little buddy. TRE is about 3in. long and his head is about the size of those mini-m&m's....but im sure that will change soon enough. i am posting this in the reef section because it is going to be a reef....nothing too elaborate......shrooms, leathers, xenia....nothing too picky because there is going to be an eel in the system. i took a few pics of him in the "acclimation bowl" aka Cool Whip Container. my mom went ape feces on me today because we developed some film and there were 12 pics of a glare......the glare coming off my tank and the pics were worthless so.....i took the pics from up above in a fairly well lit place so i hope they will come out. my good friend and yours, Scott aka Reefland is going to scan the pictures in for me and he will give me the links and i'll post them as soon as i can. Thanks everyone for your well-wishes and financial support as well.
thanks
Jon and TRE

Woohoo! It's been a long road but it sounds like you're getting it together! Good luck to you both. And post pics when you can!

Reading this post, only reminds me, that Reefland is one of the best BB boards around, thanks to the owners, moderators, and the wonderful members.
Can't wait to see pics.
Good luck.

ok i know its normal for new inhabs to be pretty skittish the first week or so until they get adapted to their new environment.....but as of now i have yet to see tre leave his/her cave in the very back of the tank.....i see his head poking out so i drop krill chunchs down there but it doesnt appear to be interested....i am also feeding a flake and marine cuisine but my cin. clown takes care of the flake really fast as well as the majority of the marine cuisine.....just keeping you all updated on my little buddy.

Have you tried a cube of formula 1 on a skewer dangled inticingly in front of his cave? Or maybe a silverside will intice the little guy to eat. so when are you going to get some picks of that little guy?

i'll try the silverside thats what i was going to do but the guy at the lfs said oh no he's too small to eat that for somereason i listened to him....i'll just cut the silverside down if he's too big for the eel. the trouble is his cave is surrounded by these dang aptasia's so sometimes when i drop food in his direction they will grab on his food but i always make sure a few peices make their way in front of his cave. i took some pics but i have about 20more pics to take on this roll of film and i cant take any more pics through the glass because the glass always reflects and all i get for a picture is a glare so.....as soon as we dispose of the rest of the remaining pics youll see him.

jon ,thats awesome im about to add the first inhabitant to my fowlr(been setup almost three months)and one is definitely going to be an eel(with puffer and trigger i think) if you have a real hard time getting him to eat ,and he goes say five days or so ,dont be afraid to throw in a feeder guppie if for nothing else than to see if he will eat at all.a few fresh feeders wont kill youre marines, kinda like you having a candybar.im sure some will probly flame me for this opinion, and it could even make it harder to ween him on to"dead"food ,but im just suggesting as a last resort kind of thing ,he sounds tiny and probly shouldnt go too long without food.
and also im no photographer but if you make sure that you trun off all the lights in the room ,so its dark, you wont get glare off youre glass in youre picshth

I've heard of people taking airline tubing and sucking a cube of food to it and then dangling it in front of lions and eels to make them think it's alive, seems to work, I'd say try that. He must really be small if he can't eat a silverside. yeah maybe try some brine of a little frozen shrimp soaked in selcon or something. HTH

This whole deal kind of warms the cockles of my heart. A nice story in an age of cyber-dishonesty and greed.
