need help taking pix of tank with a new digital

I need some tips to help me take better - more vivid and colorful pictures of my tank. I received a canon s100 digital elph as a wedding present and have been trying to take some pictures of my tank... they aren't coming out as vivid or colorful as i'd like - please help!
lights on or off? flash off? macro mode? i'm a developer, no photographer!

I've got a few tips to help:

1. Get a tripod unless you have a very steady hand and use the timer - when you press the button you tend to move the camera.
2. Turn off all exernal lighting except the tank
3. Get the camera a close to the glass as possible, lens right on it if you can. Otherwise the camera will focus on the glass, not what's beyond it.
3. Turn the flash off - take picture from angle not straight on
4. If you have a setting for flourescent lighting, use that setting.
5. If you can manually set the shutter speed - use the faster speed
6. Turn off the pumps - coral movement = blurry picture
7. Take lots and lots of pictures - you may end up with one or two that are good.

Hope this helps a bit.

DITTO! especially the tripod!!

Love the tips Susan! Thanx for sharing

Also one other thing you might want to try Reefmack is if you ever have all of your hood off then take pictures from above.....this is especially effective with clams and SPS, I love topography pics!

Here are some examples...the first pic, the blue clam is the same clam as the 2nd pic...notice the coloration difference....I swear there are no alterations there either!

You might also want to use the macro mode for close up pics.
