    Question with my nano tank

Hey guys, i am running a 34gal Red Sea Max 130D tank with 50lbs of live sand and 38lbs of live rock. thank has been up for about 1.5 month now and is doing well but i have one problem. it is a fully enclosed system with the sump and skimmer and all built into the back of the tank and a fully enclosed lighting hood, 2 55w T5 lights.

my problem is my tank normally runs right at 80deg and i know this is to warm. i have looked at some different chillers but they aint cheap and i really dont know where i would install one on this enclosed system.

    any ideas????

    thanks
    steve

Re: Question with my nano tank

I'm unfamiliar with Red Sea's Nano systems. A lot of times, you can replace the stock pumps with cooler running pumps and this will help a lot. If there's a way to remove the top and hang the light, it'd help immensely. Otherwise, blowing a fan over the top of the fixture, where the vents are, will remove some heat. If you were able to blow the fan across the water surface, it'd help even more.

80 is too warm for what? A room air conditioner would be better than a chiller because it would keep you cool as well ;)

ya i would love to run the AC alot more at our house but ummm i guess my wife is a desert creature and wants to keep the house around 75 most the time, and that is the compromise LOL!! i am gonna keep the top open during the day and see if it cools it off some.

will the sand star really hurt my DSB??? i thought they were good for it????

Yes, it will wipe out your sand bed in quick order.

Didn't it come with a built-in ventilation fan? I know they started adding them some time back. That should definitely help.

Anything up to 84 degrees Fahrenheit is okay. If you want to be on the safe side, try to keep it 83F and below. Temperatures in nature get much higher than that on a regular basis.
