    Clownfish not feeding anemone

I just got a bleached BTA 2 days ago and my clownfish hosted it immediately. it is SLIGHTLY yellowish with pinkish/ reddish tips on the tentacle. i tried to target feed it with mysis shrimp but the clownfish would take away the food and spit it out. I know i have to target feed the anemone in order for it to regain it's zooxanthellae , any ideas?

    i have 4x 24 T5 lighting over a 30 gallon. half blue half white

Try cutting the bottom off a clean 2 or 3 liter bottle and put it over your anemone when you feed it. I use this method to keep my clowns from stealing food when I feed my open brain.

What size is your anemone? Try offering pieces of fish cut up large enough for your anemone to accept it. Mysis shrimp is OK food, in general, but hardly contain enough nutrition for an anemone. Get some smallish bait fish and offer it to your animal while feeding the clownfish at the different spot in aquarium. If it persist on removing any and all food items, simply cut larger pieces and place them directly on the tentacles. Once captured by anemone it will be hard for the clownfish to take it away because anemone will quickly curl it's tentacles with food towards it's mouth.

Anyway, experiment with different foods and keep us posted.

    Good luck!
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

    Re: Clownfish not feeding anemone

hi, its built in instinct for the clownfish to host the anemone but in a lot of cases they dont know what to do with it! most of the time its a clownfish that will distroy your anemone by starving it or over cleaning and putting a hole in a few places! try feeding your anemone at the same time you feed your fish and the clown should be too busy compeating for food giving the anemone time to consume it!
