    aandtsociety pygama squid collected(cute,for sure)

Check out this little cutie,it was collected in some of the most discusting conditions as an accident while getting feeder shrimp at day light this morning, lots of fun at the low tide mud flats, but it was discustingly cold and dark and muddy.
It went into a tank, sat still for a while than had a go at one of the boxer feeder shrimp in the tank for the lion fish.
At the moment the peppermint shrimps are doing very well now that the algea bacteria combo food for the boxer shrimp has dropped away so they are taking over, they were every where.
The boxer shrimp and them don't get on,so once the boxers numbers drop, the peps are in big numbers,it's the same year after year.well since the late 70s any way.
A little red ocy was caught as well, same as last time, they may fight i don't know they are in the same tank now, lots of hiding spots, the new one escaped through the holes in its container before a pic could be taken.
The pic is before the squid was put into a tank and the video is around 3 hours after it went in.

Wikipedia says the pyjama squid (Sepioloidea lineolata) is poisonous!

Do these things last very long in captivity? I would imagine that they would be difficult to maintain very long???

    Nice video clip!

I tend to think the info is confusing it with an actual dumpling squid, they are most certainly poisonus.

I don't know and i don't care,i trust nothing from the ocean as i have a sting of all kinds to make me realise most things out there can harm to some degree, but you never let a soft body on your skin, they all bite and one maybe poisonous?

I have used these for fish food before and never had a death,so i don't know?

The toxin they discribe may be in its flesh,if so it may not be overly toxic????

If it is in its bite like the blue ring, the care i take with all soft bodies is very justified.

I havent used one of these or similar as fish food for a very long time, not since i had a lot of things going in and out of my tanks quickly,i only know what i have done and seen,i never really believe what i have not!

Its good to settle down a little and keep a few for a while that i would not normally keep longer than the experiment dictated or the passing on of life forms from back than.

The end of this year may pull all that i do back for a while, maybe totaly, hopefully the other guys will continue to show what we do if that happens.

Well, I guess it can't be all that dangerous because here is the rather vague reference your government makes: "The dramatic colour pattern of this squid is probably advertising a poisonous nature."

Interesting, did it say if the bite was dangerous or the flesh was.

I wouldn't let ones mouth near my flesh any way,i wonder,if that is right why didn't i have deaths back than with the fish food?

There is always something to hear, read or learn, thats what i like the most about the ocean,it's a huge learning curb!

Follow the link in my post above to read what they have to say. They don't say much at all. However, if the bite was dangerous, that would make it venomous, not poisonous.

Hapalochlaena sp. octopuses (blue-ringed octopuses) are venomous. Extremely so!

If an animal bites you and injects its poison/venom into you, it's considered venomous. Then we get into the definitions of poisonous and toxic, which are confusing. I think poisonous means that you will get sick if you eat it or eat certain parts of it (e.g., puffer fish).

P.S. -- In news articles and magazine articles, the word poisonous is frequrently used when what they really mean is venomous.
