    Bubble tip problems!

Hello I had a post last week were we were moving a 125 reef tank.
I ended up finding a service to move the tank and very happy we did so.
Everthing seems to be doing OK, corals doing better every day, except there was a Green bubble tip anemone that did not take the move well at all. It is still open and all is deflated with some brown die off it looks like.

At what point do we give up so it does not harm the rest of the tank?

    Thank you
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Sorry to hear about your anemone having problems... You woudn't by chance have a picture of it?
I wouldn't give up on it too quickly unless you see it is sort of breaking up, in other words it is turning to mush. Then you need to act quickly and remove it.

    Is it attached to anything?
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

    Hello zhenya,
Thank you for your reply. We took the Bubble coral out it indeed was done, along with what looks like a leather finger that did not make it. We did have a Candycane coral, frogspawn, and a leather tree that did make it.

Too bad about the Green bubble coral, it was almost the size of a softball.

    Mike,

In your opening post you called it as "green bubble tip anemone" but you're now calling it a "green bubble coral."

Just for the record, is it a green bubble tip anemone or a green bubble coral? Zhenya and I were both under the impression that it was a green bubble tip anemone, which is why I asked him to respond to your post. He's our bubble tip anemone expert.

    Ninong, Gene, and Mike

Guys, keep in mind this tank was recently torn down, moved, and set back up again, it is gonna go through at least a mini-cycle that will certainly affect the health of the more delicate corals. JMHO.

Mike, how much of the original water did you save?
And I hope you listened to Ninong and dumped the old sand bed.

And please test your water and post the test results.
Ph, amm, nitrite, nitrate, and spec. Gravity.

Ninong and Gene are our resident Guru's and both are very knowledgeable, I've learned alot from both.

And you guys thought I didn't listen

    Tanks,
    Robert

    Re: Bubble tip problems!

    Hello Guy's, Sorry home late.

At this point i'm not sure if it was an Anemone, or Bubble coral. It was in pretty bad shape when it got here, I would guess Coral.

I was told that about 50 gal orig water, and about 40 new water.
The Live sand bed was kept, but was rinsed? I was told.

    PH 8.4
Amm 0 Today Monday it was between 0/25 will call it 12
    Nitrite 0
    Nitrate 10
    SG 1.026

    Thank you Again, Mike

    Re: Bubble tip problems!

    Hi Mike,

It is really easy to tell the difference between an anemone and hard coral like the bubble coral (Plerogyra sinuosa) as hard coral have a skeleton and anemone does not.
Here's an example image of the green bubble tip anemone (Entacmaea quadricilor) bubble-tip anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor) #0142 on Flickr - Photo Sharing!
And here is the image of the bubble coral

And, why it is important to know the difference, their survival depends on your knowledge as their needs are quite different. ;)
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

    Re: Bubble tip problems!

    Thanks zhenya,

It had a skeleton, so it was a Bubble coral.

The tank seems to be doing very well now.
This is our first reef tank, and there is a lot going on!

We have Two very small Anemones, a little smaller than a dime.
And about 6 small starfish (I think) about 1/8" in size. Is this something
the live rock produced, or come from?

Do the test results on my tank water look OK?
And do you think I might have a problem with saving the live sand bed?

    Thank you
    Mike
