    Water Filter: RO or RO/DI?

    Hey All,

As I'm sick of buying distilled water for my water changes, It's time for a filter system.

Can y'all tell me, for a reef tank, is an RO system sufficient or is an RO/DI system the way to go?

Secondly, any specific suggestions for a system that is cost efficient for me? I have a 50 gallon tank so I wouldn't need a big one.

    Thanks for any help.

    CMOS

im also in the market and found these

    RO/DI Systems

also air water and ice, a sponsor on this forum, has one for like 109

you can always add a DI to your RO later also.

im probably going to get a 50 gpd or 75, with an auto shut off its great if you need alot of water all of a sudden.

get the whole thing at once RO and DI...the DI addon doesn't cost much more, but the water is a lot more pure. Stick with a standard 10" filter system so you can buy them anywhere. I also went with The Filter Guys with happy results.

Do NOT get just R.O. Go ahead and get R.O./D.I. now. Don't get more gpd than you really need because the higher the gpd, the faster the membranes wear out. And, as has already been suggested, get a setup with standard size cartridges so that you can buy the replacements anywhere.

    Good luck!

Re: Water Filter: RO or RO/DI?

    Hey Guys,

I bought a 5 stage, 75 GPD RO/DI system from "The Filter Guys". Pretty good on the pricing when compared to all the others out there.

I have the system dumping into a 50 gallon Rubbermaid (food grade) trash can with a float valve shut-off. It's working well so far!

Next step is to get another can to actually mix the salt, and circulate to reduce the oxygen depletion just after mixing the salt.

Man, reef tanks are a lot of work, but worth it!
