Do they eat live brine shrimp regularly?

I am lucky enough to have my Mandarin eat frozen brine shrimp along with the live stuff in the rocks and sand bed.
It is my understanding that manderins and scooters will eat LBS however it is not as healthy for them. The scooters at my LFS will eat frozen brine or bloodworms when they hit the bottom of the tank. HTH

i have a mandarin ,and in the six months ive had him (hes been in captivity for almost three years now he used to belong to a freind)hes never looked twice at any food i put in the tank.he munches copepods/amphipods all day long though and is fat and healthy.it is my understanding that you shouldnt attempt to keep a mandarin unless youre tank can provide this natural food source.most reccomendations ive read are 100 lbs. of live rock per mandarin,i think this might be a little exagerated, especially if you have a refugium,a live dsb etc..a beautiful fish ,but he spends most of the time in and behind the rocks hunting.hth
My scooter blennie eats everything fortunatly. Even flake food, it just has to get to the bottom. I had a mandarin, which died of ich, but he wouldn't eat anything but the copepods and other small critters in the tank .. which he decemated the supply of really quickly. Even with a sump and refugium setup for them to grow.
I have had a mandarin for about 6-7 months now and I have found it to eat just about anything that gets to the bottom but the most important thing with these beauties is to have a large supply of liverock. Too many times have I heard fellow reefers tell me that they couldn't keep them fed well enough.
I had one in a seahorse tank that was eating frozen mysis. This is lot more meat than frozen brine. It also ate with great gusto hawaiian red shrimp. You can buy a portion from Stockly's Aquarium for about $22 postpaid. So if you want to go through the expense you can use this as a supplement on new mandarins to get their body weight back up.
