pH low the last few days...

My pH has been a bit low the last few days (8.1 or so) despite my regular routine (which includes a nightly kalk drip) is it ok to drip kalk twice a day to try and help it along... or should i be looking around for the root of the problem... if so - what could that be? everything seems fine...

Reefmack,

Has the pH of 8.1 occured as the highpoint ? Do you have equipment such as a pH monitor to moniter the swing over a 24 hr period ?

8.1 isn't really low . There is a thread on one of the other BB where EB or Dr Ron claims that anywhere between 7.7 & 8.8 is OK.
What 's your Ca level at present ? If you were to add more Kalc in an effort to try and raise your pH you could run the risk of OD'ing with kalc.

If you dont have a monitor they are well worth the $$ IMO....takes the gueswork out of those colour samples and you can actually see the pH swing taking place.

i have a pinpoint monitor - but have just had it for a week. i'm just getting used to seeing my pH go up and down (day/night) so i guess i'm just paranoid... my range seems to be between 7.99-8.01 to 8.39-8.40...
