Hey Greg, you still around????
Got a question on the gfo. Ok, rinse it really well, I got that. Were you running a calcium reactor at the time you were running the gfo?

Sorry- missed this question. Yes- I have been running a reactor on this tank since it cycled.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, shouldn't the calcium reactor have kept up with the alk loss?

It will make it up sure but within an hour or so of starting the gfo up the alk drops and even though it stabilizes the shock of the drop may stress your corals. Might not be a big deal but when someone told me about that drop I measured it and found they were correct. I'm wondering if GAC doesn't do the same thing to the oxygen. Could be it happens so quickly and resolves itself fast enough that we aren't aware of it even happening. In which case... who cares?![]()

Did you ever measure the instant drop Greg?? If it stabilized, it isn't bad, but I agree, the quick drop may do some damage. I wonder if your levels were lower, like mine what the effect might have been?

It was quite a while ago but if my memory serves me correctly it went down a full 1 dkh, maybe even 1.5.
The thing with GFO is a lot of people use and it works for them. I just recommend going slowly with this stuff because it is powerful. Just look at the price tag![]()

Can you clear something up for me? Is gfo the same as a product like rowaphos?

Yep- stands for granular ferric oxide. This place seems to offer the best bang for the buck.

I just searched that and wound up there!!!!!!
I will do some reading for sure. I am headed over to Spokane this weekend and will talk to Kevin also. Thanx for your help Greg, hope things will level out for you. With some TLC, I am pretty sure you will get things right!!!!
