I clip a piece of Ocean Nut. Seaweed Select, green marine algea in the tank once a day for him and the tang, and there is also some algea on the back glass they pick at it. The CB's color has done nothing but brighten and deepen since I've had

Yeah, I've got a little growing in there, mostly along the sandbed line, and a little of the back, I need to redirect some flow and get some bouncing off the back glass
A quick question,
I currently have approx 1 - 1.5 inches of live sand in the tank, if I wanted to increase the depth to 2 - 2.5 inches, could I just add some aragonite (sp?) over the existing sand bed to achieve the desired depth?

Robert
If I was gonna increase the depth, why don't you go to at least 3-4"?

ok, so it's alright to just add it on top of existing? I see your reasoning of the 3 - 4", true dsb

Robert
Yeah, you don't have much going on in there now, so it would be a good time to add.

Any guess at poundage to achieve 3-4, I've got 60 lbs, now so what double it, and where is a good place to get it? LFS, Home Depot????
There is a calculator in the links in the sticky.
Home Depot, what you gonna buy there??? A bucket to pour the new sand in???

according to the calculator, I need to add an additional 40 lbs @ 85lbs per cubic ft(halfway between the types of suggested arag. This amount should result in a depth of 3.5 inches.
That sound right????
I have no idea????? I need the dimensions of your tank. Actually sounds low to me.

standard 55
48 x 12 x 21
currently have 60 lbs in tank
According to what I just did, if you wanted to increase to a 4" bed from a 1" bed, you are gonna need 90 lbs. of sand.

Is that adding 90 lbs or a total of 90 lbs?

Robert, there is no way for me to tell you that. I would have to be there after you add it to have an opinion really. Get 2 bags of sand, add one, look at it and go from there!!!!
