? on Salifert Alk/Kh test
I just received my salifert test kits. For the KH/Alkalinity it says you can do twice as many tests with the lower resolution test in which you basically add half of the ingrediants and it is a little bit harder to see when the color changes. My question is it says to 'mulitiply the calculated result by 2' for doing the lower resolution test. I tried this and it doesn't make any sense. The amounts were off the scale. Wouldn't you divide the calculated result by two instead?
Thanks. Steve |

Hi Steve!
Multiplying by 2 is correct. If you were adding twice the amount (i.e. 8ml), then you would divide by 2. For a more accurate test, try using the recommended amounts.
What was the result you got? Scott |

For the regular method (not cutting the amounts in half), I had a dKH of 6.7 and a Alkalinity of 2.4. The alkalinity is pretty much dead on with my Red Sea test kit. Yes, I know these are low. I have been adding reef builder to raise the alkalinity but it drops after a few days. With the 'low resolution' test, I have .79 left in the syringe. Multiply the results by 2 and that is a dKH of 25.28 and a alkalinity of 9.02. What am I doing wrong for the low res test?

If Im reading the test instructions correct I think you need to look at the values on the list . Find the value you got (.79) then decide if you want DKH or meq/l results. In dkh its 3.3 or very close then multiply by 2. In meq/l its 1.20 or very close then multiply by 2. HTH
