Thank You
the forums went wacky and got a new server and i believe either that link got broken or that site is borked, i'll look it up later its bed time...
I'm new to saltwater aquariums and forums (I've never posted before) I wanted to say hello and thank you for this wonderful list. I will read through all of it probably more than once. I have had my tank up for one month. There sure is a lot to learn the first being patience. As it happens I started my tank now because I am recovering from shoulder surgery and have the time. It has been fun/frustrating/interesting/confusing so far. Hope to be able to keep soft corals and a few fish maybe a few clowns. By tracking my nitrates ph nitrates alk I believe my tank has cycled. My specific gravity started to drop so I did my first water change 10% yesterday. Today sg is 1.023. I see others measuring calcium magnesium etc what test kit do I get for that? Christi
Hey Christi, its a lot of reading but well worth it, I've been doing this hobby since '07 and I still read new things every day, or even re-visit these links to refresh my memory (hey I'm here reading right now eh?)
I would use Salifert test kits, I hear Elos are good but I have never used them.
Good luck!
I have crushed coral in my tank I believe. It is made up of small, white bits of what looks like coral and shells. It is definately much more porus than sand though. Is getting sand in my tank really important? if so, whats the best way to change out the crushed coral for sand without causes too much stress to fish and stuff?
I have used Crushed Coral in my Reef for 12 years. I've never run into issues. But yes, you can remove the CC and add LS. Scoop out the CC as best you can, and yes, your going to stress the crap outta everyone in there, but, when its done you'll have peace of mind.
