when i was using tap water my ph was 8.6 now that i am using ro/di water my ph is 7.0 with lights on all day. what is a good buffer to bring up my ph and what could happen if the ph doesn't rise.

Just out of curiosity do you have a full glass cover on your tank. If so remove it. glass lids inhibit gas exchange and prevent c02 from being released out hence lowering the pH. If that is not the case then I have had good luck with SeaChem's Marine Buffer.
