I finally found a local store with really nice, fully-cured live rock (Coral Connection in Willoughby Ohio -- really nice store), and built the reef in my 90 gal tank. Everything is looking good, and given that it is well cured, I'm going to have a very short cycle time. There's all kind of critters coming out of the rock (feather dusters, little snails, & others)-- incredibly exciting to watch (My girlfriend doesn't think so, but I can't quit staring at it ).
Enough of that, on to my questions: I have 160 lbs of Southdown TPS in the tank right now, and my next planned step will be getting the sand bed "live". I was planning on adding about 20 lbs of live sand (Just the bagged, bacteria-only kind) and then a detrivore kit & cleanup crew. Any good suggestions on 1) Where to get the cleanup crew? (I've been looking at eTropicals.com -- seems to have good prices) 2) Where to get a detrivore kit to get the sand bed going? Any advice on where to go/what to get/anything I'm doing wrong or could be improved on would be greatly appreciated. Rob |

I would skip the bag of "bacteria" sand--you really don't need it. Spend the money on a small amount of real "live sand" if your LFS has any.
The best place for a detrivore kit would be www.ipsf.com or www.inlandaquatics.com You should order that now. There are lots of places that sell clean-up crew critters online, including some critters from IPSF. Also, check to see what's available at your LFS. Thanks for the advice. I will skip on the cultured sand then. I have a couple of good LFSs to get a few pounds of good live sand -- I'll be taking the drive for that after work today.
Talked to Inland aquatics, they sound really good so I'll be getting their detrivore kit within the next week. And great suggestion on Saltwaterfish.com -- They have some real nice prices (Considering that shipping is included), but they have a LOT of selection (Not a bad thing if you know exactly what you're looking for, but in my case...). Got any suggestions as to which package to get? Thanks again! Rob [This message has been edited by RobG (edited 05-07-2001).] |

For the sake of diversity I would get the kits from both www.ipsf.com and www.inlandaquatics.com. Ihave already added a kit from ipsf and will order from inland soon. FWIW, Skip
