    Lightbulb New concept-

I just purchased a 240 gal tank with a wet/dry 35gal and not a day later I got a smashing deal on a 40 gallon with an overflow (couldn't pass it up). So I thought to my self how am I going to make this work. Simple! I am going to have the 240 overflow into the 40 gal as a refugium then into the wet/dry for a 75gal ish cycle. I think it's a great idea but I would like some input on pumps and lighting. the 40gal has 2xt5 ho's but no lighing for the main tank yet. I got a 200gph pump with the big tank but im not even sure if it will be usefull. My question is has anyone tried this kind of setup and what kind of plumbing/lighting setup should I use?

Can you come up with a couple of pics for us? I would like a pic of the display and the wet/dry?
I think draining the display into the 40 would probably be to much for the 40. I almost have to assume that the 240 has 2 overflows, right?
The pump you got would maybe be good for mixing saltwater for water changes, that is about how I see that.

The holes are 1 1/2" but the bulk head fittings that came with it size down to 1 1/4". The bulk head kits also have came with elbow pieces that size down even further to 1" so with that kit I can go any way with it. What do you recommend?

Here is a calculator that will help you figure out what your flow should be through those 2 drains:
    Drain/Overflow Size

Do you have a skimmer for this yet?
I think you should probably run the drains into the sump first and figure a way to incorporate the 40 gallon from there. You could feed the 40 with a pump, (We don't know what the overflow is rated to on the 40 yet).

    I would look through here:

You have to come up with some sort of plan for this tank before we can go to much further.
