hey all,
Thanks for all the help so far. A couple more questions for ya. I've been reading online about how to get rid of my aiptsia growth. So far, the only course of action I'm willing to take is to introduce a peppermint shrimp to take care of them. I've been checking some sources online, and now I'm really confused. Is the peppermint shrimp the cleaner shrimp or not? If it is, I've already got one, but it doesn't touch the aiptsia. My second question is, if it's not the same this as the cleaner shrimp, will it fight with my cleaner shrimp if I put it in the tank? I've read that the peppermint shrimp doesn't get along with other species of shrimp. That's it for now, thanks for the help again. ![]() |

You probably have Lysmata amboinensis, the Common Cleaner Shrimp from the Indo-Pacific. Lysmata wurdemanni, the Peppermint Shrimp, is the Caribbean Cleaner Shrimp. Usually there is no problem keeping these two species in the same tank.
I would avoid Banded Coral Shrimp (Stenopus hispidus), as they can be very aggressive. Ninong ![]()

I have 3 peppermints, a cleaner and a CBS in a 90 and they all get along nicely.
I'd actually have to say that the cleaner's the biggest troublemaker. When I put seaweed in a lettuce clip for the tang, he jumps up and grabs on until he's full, keeping all the fish away... |

gr,
I also have had no problem with my peppermints and cleaners getting along. I did have to get rid of my coral banded some time ago. I caught him with one of my cleaners in his mouth. I also had a aiptsia problem. On advise of this board I got 2 peppermints. After 2 months of seeing nothing happen, the aiptsia disappeared. I guess I have to give credit to the peppermints.
