About LinkBacksdo i need a plenum for a DSB to work properly or will 3-5 inches of aragonite sand and the correct amount of live rock work just fine?? it would really be a pain to install a plenum but i could pull it off, if need be, at the point i am setting up my system.

No you do not need to install a plenum to make a DSB work.
