Hi im new to this forum but i cant seem to find the answer to this question. I have a 75g tank with a 20g sump. The problem is the stand is an open bottom wood tank. I believe there is splashing going on to the point that my carpet in front of the tank is now wet so that means under the stand and around the sump is wet as well. We have decided to get some plexi glass and surround the problem end of the sump so it cant splash out anymore but we would like to make it stop splashing. Currently we have a flexable tube from the tanks overflow to the sump it is at a bit of an angle the way its set up we can not use a straight down pvc pipe we thought about using elbows but wasnt sure if we would have the same outcome as thre are still bends in it. the bottom of the 75 has some salt residue but isnt wet so we dont think its leaking or driping from that area all tubes are dry as well. Any suggestions on how to handle this problem. we have tryed to make the tube go down as straight as possible but still it bubbles under the water and of course when the air surfaces it splashes out. The stand does not have room to remove the sump without draining the tank and as it has been up and going for 8 months and is doing well i dont wanna drain it the other problem is our shrimp has decided to lay her eggs at the top of the tank and the babies were drawn into the the overflow half are living in the over flow and are growing very well and some are in the sump living just fine im supprised at this but makes it hard to drain the water. would the plexi glass work or is there something else i should look for.
thank you for reading this long post and if u need more info please let me know and ill answer what i can.

Hello,
Here's a fairly simple solution. Place a PVC "T" at the end of the drain tube and slip 2 short (as long as will fit in your sump) lengths of PVC pipe. Drill a bunch of 1/4" holes in the pipe to make the bubbles smaller and disperse them. I would also cover the area of the sump where the water drains in. You can use flexible plastic (even a cut trash bag). Have it sag towards the center that way when the salt spray/creep builds up it will drip back down into the sump.

well our thought was to use plexi around the sides since the sump is in that chamber but after looking at it it seems the skimmer was releasing its bubbles right next to the flex tube comeing from the tank. so after looking we decided to just take the baffle out next to it and turn the skimmer so far it seems to be working since the next baffle is higher then the skimmers intake so it wont run dry at any time. however i need to either find something to hold the tube coming to the sump up above the water or keep more water in there cause now its just below the surface lol. butif this doesnt in the end work ill try the pipe idea. thank you for the reply
