Can't say without a Pic, I'd say, take a pic of it and post it on Dr. Ron's site, he'll tell you what it is, but not without a picture, nobodie's going to be able to get any closer than you have. HTH

That's tough, I don't have a digicam either: hence Bioman posts no pics. What does its shell look like? is it conical? COuld be a cone snail (poisonous, don't get on the business end of that trunk (proboscis) you'll get shot (really, shot with a cartilage arrow that's poisoned). It won't feel none too good either. but, it could also be a harmless conch, like a queen conch or the like, So, maybe go get audobon's guide to seashore creatures, or someother layman's taxonomic guide (as layman's guides go, Audobon's sucks, IMO) and go from there, you might at least be able to get it down to the family. (THe audobon society makes really easy to use guides, but they are divided based on external morphology, not actual taxonomic criteria, like Phylum, Class, Order, Family, etc.) and they are not really "taxonomic keys" so to speak, just a kind of guide. Rambled a little bit, sorry. Hope you figure out what it is. HTH JCS

How big is it? I had what I thought was a cone once, but it turned out to be a juve conch. their shells are simiilar in basic structure, if it's pretty small, it may be a conch., If it's more than I'd say aboput an inch or so in shell length, and it still looks like a cone, get it out carefully, and let Dr. ROn ID it for you, maybe even ship it live, so if it's a good critter, he can return it.(If he'll do that, don't know if he will.)
