Ich - RxP
I am trying to get rid off ich with RxP and no Luck. It appears to contoll it, but not signs of getting rid of it.
I raised the alkalinity as indicated and temperature is between 78 and 80. Does anyone have experience with RxP? Is there anyhting else that I can use? The fish are eating, but I need to get rid of Ich. |

Have you tried Cleaner Shrimp? They're amazing critters when it comes to eliminating ick on fish. Just my .02

its ok but i have hade better luck with a product that is totaly reef safe its cauled kick ick and it worked rely well and didnt hert a thing just make sure you turn your skimmer off

I agree with the cleaner shrimp as suggested by Aragorn, and maybe even using soluble garlic at most health/nutrition stores. little bit mixed in w/their food. [img]/ubb/smile.gif[/img]

I am finally winning my war on ick in part to a very friendly cleaner shrimp. I had no luck with the garlic

yep - I'd stay away from chemicals. I'd either do hyposalinity (hard to do in a reef) or use biological controls to keep it in check. Some points:
-Don't use cleaner wrasses. Delicate fish with really poor survival rate. They are being depleted in the wild. -Neon gobys (any goby in the gobiasoma family - I think)are excellent cleaners. Have an excellent survival rate and will often breed in captivity. Will also eat other foods in addition to eating parasites off of fish. Very inexpensive fish and seem to do a little better in pairs. -Cleaner shrimp are excellent cleaners as mentioned above. -Filter feeders such as fan worms will help control the parasite as they feed off of it's free floating stage. I'm kind of the opinion that the ich parasite is not the end of the world to have in a reef tank. If you have sufficient biological controls and healthy fish(sick/stressed fish get ich as a SECONDARY infection because of their lowered immune system - much like we get a cold), then you will probably have few if any problems with it. The garlic remedy is controversial. There is no scientific evidence that I'm aware of as to why it would work. However, I've seen it SEEM to work in a couple of instances, although - to be fair - the fish may have benefitted just as much from the extra feedings. Hope this helps. I have cured minor stress related ich problems twice using garlic and Kick Ick. But keep in mind that when it comes right down to it, I have no idea if the cure was the garlic, the Kick Ick, or the fact that the fish settled down in his new home and cured itself. Or possibly some combination of the three.
