Very nice clean setup. Make sure you let it all cycle through before you add in any fish or anything. Plus, keep up on those water changes and youll keep that tank spotless :]

    Re: My first nano tank

I just set up mine 2-looks very like yours, its about 10 days old now and starting to find new little things in it every day, I just introduced 2 cleaner shrimp, 5 snails and 1 starfish that is a bit crap coz he just lives under the sand so you cant even see him. How do you know when ` cycle is done?? when do you begin the 10% water changes? I have the temp at 26 degrees?

(as long as water is correct) and ill do a 10% water change that day .. i was told to do a 10% water change at least once every 2 weeks

    Re: My first nano tank

Thanks for that, we can be the blind leading the blind here Im going to seahorse aquariums in Dublin for mine, they have a great range in there. They checked out the water for me and I got the all clear so just some of the cleaning crew for me for now (snails, starfish & 2 cleaner shrimp), ill wait till jan to get any fish. I will pick up some hermit crabs and maybe some hardy corals/plants next week. have you noticed many little strange things growing on your rocks yet?

    nicolac,

Your tank is not mature enough for any corals at the moment, you need to let it mature abit longer, I'd wait on any type of live stock till at least jan. JMHO. You should do the same weasel.

    Tanks,
    Robert

Oh God...Im such a beginner...whats a sump? Mine came set up, all the filter with sponges to the left, lots of funny bits like plastic black balls and little white tube things in the middle and to the right the pump and heater but I am going to but a power head on Ebay to add more circulation (Hydor Koralia 1 Aquarium Circulation Pump). I hope this will help with corals. so you think to leave the water for about a month before making water changes every 2 weeks approx? Im so jealous you have a little blue starfish...its like you got a little freebe!

    Re: My first nano tank

Thanks Robert, Maybe I am getting ahead of myself since I have added some inverts I can go for it. I might just get some Hermets next week and wait till jan for anything else. What do you think? Also if there is a little crab I have seen peeping a furry liiking claw out if a hole in the rock could it be a hermit with no shell? what will he do? kill a snail and rob his shell? I heard they do this? Thanks for the advice

    Re: My first nano tank

without a pic it would be hard to id the little beast, but if he appears to be hairy it is probably a gorilla crab, not such a good thing, see if you can trap him and get a picture up for positive id, and we'll go from there, also start removing the black balls in the back of your tank, these are bio balls or some such thing, they will become a nitrate factory, your live rock and live sand are your bio filter, remove a few each week till they are all gone.

At the top of this thread is a sticky called "click here before you ask" there is a lot of knowledge there and alot of help, both of you should read through these and if you have any questions post and we'll do our best to help.

    Tanks,
    Robert

    Re: My first nano tank

Hi badassweasel, that was a cool clip, its good coz we started days apart in a similar size tank swo its good to see how the other person is doig and tips and that, the fire shrimp is cool, my 2 cleaner shrimp stayed at the back for about 3 days now they are right at the front a lot, they are cheeky as hell! This is what I have in my tank now:

    21 Gal/80 L - 25oC – 26oC and salinity of 32ppt – 33ppt
Set up tank on Wed 25th November
    trochus snails 1 1 Died
    cerith snails 2
    Turbo snails 2 1 Died
    Cleaner shrimp 2
    Elegant Sea Star 1
    Blue leg hermit crabs 3

    Plants
    Green Zoanthids
    Green Star Polyps
Feather Duster worms (I love these)

Like you Im getting 2 clowns (2 percula clownfish) but a few days after xmas as I will be away for a few days, not the best time to introduce them. looks like you have put a few bob into the tank now with the light and that, any tips for me so far? Like your corals....
