    Unhappy Ritteri anemone deflated :(

i bought a ritteri anemone for my 90 gal. tank and it looked beautiful for the first week. after the first week, it would periodically deflate and then inflate again and seem fine. over the last couple of days it has seemed to be spending more time deflated than it does looking normal. i bought it on 11/27 and floated it for a good hour.. anyone know what can be wrong?

Let me guess this tank has been set up for 2-3 weeks, and your LFS said you would be fine with this????????????????????????

not a couple of weeks but actually about 6 months. so relatively a new tank but still not brand new. i knew a bit about the anemone before i got it...LFS guy however, said that the lighting i had was fine, i thought i would be able to handle it but im just making sure that there is something i can do. i have a single 40 w t-12 12,000 kelvin light. is that lighting ok?
its only deflating but not turning itself inside out like i've read in similar posts before it dies...

40w is nowhere near the requirement of that anemone. although it is not the best way of looking at at, that light is less than 1/2 watt per gallon over your tank. get up to 5 or 6 or even higher for a happy anemone. remember that first and foremost your lfs wants to sell things to make money. they arent too concerned whether it lives or dies. Do your own research before making a purchase. dont take your lfs word for it. and sorry about the anemone.

Way to go,vio.Mike get some real light on it before it dies or give it back to the LFS.
Then type these words in your Google search bar (How much light does a Ritteri anemone need to survive.).Research before you buy,and while your at the LFS give somebody a swift kick in the ***.

    Mike,

I would recommend a T-5 fixture, either 6 bulb or the 8 bulb set ups, people are doing incredible things with the T-5's, alot of folks here are keeping and growing sps, lps etc with the T-5's and I've heard they are very energy friendly, vs MH and PC's, on the note of PC's, wait till you have to replace a 36" bulb and find out it's 60.00 plus for the daylight bulb, you'd be fine with a good T-5

    Getting more light is great.....

Since you're now asking about light fixtures, it appears you are going to do your research before buying a light fixture.....THAT'S REALLY GREAT!

But what are you doing with the anemone in the mean time?

Do you have a friend with better conditions for it who could keep it for a while?

    Re: Ritteri anemone deflated :(

I have not gotten new lighting yet.. TOO expensive!! But i am in the market. so any suggestions are welcome! I'm looking for a 6 bulb 4 foot T5 fixture. with multiple cords and all those goodies. (was hoping santa would help but instead i got socks... i cant do anything for a reeftank with socks!!! ) anyways, I have just been feeding it twice a week and it has been thriving. and about the split.... false alarm. It still looks like it is going to but until i see a second mouth in not calling it.
