Berlin Modifications

I heard about the Kent Venturi modification and was about to order one, (i have a berlin venturi model and was only getting about 1/2 cup skimmate a week). but someone told me about a modification to the venturi cone on the berlin, (either drilling hole larger or cutting a 1/16th off of narrow end of cone) i did the latter, last night around 8 pm. as of 8pm tonight (24hrs) my collection cup is about 1/2 full of dark brown skimmate. as said before only getting 1/2 cup a week before now almost 1/2 collection cup in 24hrs. will Kent venturi get me more skimmate of should i just stick with this modification and see what happens.......thanks, Dave

This skimmer is on your 75g tank, right? I think you can wait and see if your mod works before spending money. I would..
Half a cup of skimmate in 24 hours is pretty good production, in my opinion, and I don't believe you need more than that. Unless of course you feed alot of food and your tank is overstocked.

thanks for your response Gene, thats the conclusion i came up with, the production of skimmer has about tripled since i made modification, i was was ready to spend a couple of hundred on a new skimmer, (wife not to happy with that since i just spent a few hundred on M.H. upgrade) totally amazed on production im getting just by cutting 1/16th off of venturi cone, before i was running air at full throttle, now i have to feather back on air intake, drilled collection cup, added drain hose to bigger cantainer. thanks again, this site is the best thing for reef keepers, weather your a beginner or a pro, you always learn something.
