Thumbs up Mated pair of maroon clowns (update w/ pics)

Some of you may have seen my post/poll about the maroon clowns a couple of weeks ago.

Well, I took all of your great advice, set up a quarantine, and now have the two beauties in the quarantine. The female was nipping at the male really badly for the first couple of days (hence the slightly tattered fins), but since then they've turned really cute and friendly with each other.

Here's a pic. Thanks for all your advice. I love these fish

    And now the question...

What kind of anemone do I get for these guys once I put them in the main tank? I've heard E. Quads are easiest to keep, but I don't know if the maroons will take to them in the wild...

Entacmaea quadricolor happens to be the ONLY natural host anemone for Maroon clowns (Premnas biaculeatus).

Your maroons will love the E. Quad. Congrats on getting them to pair up.

Chromis, that looks exactly like every bubble tip I've ever seen "in an aquarium." They tend to lose their bubble tips in a lot of aquariums. Dr. Shimek thinks it's a lighting thing. The more intense your lighting is the more likely your bubble tip will keep it's bubble tips. They still do just fine get really large.

Yes its a bubble tip or it was when I got it. Under the iswaki 250 and 2x96 pc's. It hasnt really showed its bubbles since the first week introduced to the tank.

I know I don't *have* to get them an anemone, but look at tendar's pic... They look so great in one.

    Chromis,

Isn't the male always the smaller of the two?

    Just a note...

If you have any Melafix, you may want to add it to your quarantine tank while the clowns are in there. It works great at helping fish to repair torn and damaged fins and tails.

I don't have any melafix, but I'm soaking all their food in selcon while they're in quarantine. They seem to be re-growing well.

    What's melafix?

If I had over to do it again I would not get another one. One of the problems with it is that it has grown alot over the last 4 mounths with its sweepers up to 6"long and a base closing in on a 9" forceing me to move corals out of the way for it thus crowding my tank and I even had to tradin a couple of corals to make room. I would remove it but it is well attached to a 15 lb rock with a leather and mushrooms on the same rock. Plus the clowns never leave the thing so I really dont get to see them that much.

    Pair of Clowns

I have a pair in my Bubble Tip anenome. The anenome grew so large that it moved in on my corals. The maroons are loving it.

The male is always smaller and a little lighter in color. They are great. Feed them a variety of foods (Formula 1 is great) to keep the colors vibrant.
