Cool largest tank in the Nation

What is the largest personal tank in the nation? What about the southeast? Was thinking about this last night and thought I would post.

I'd like to take my scuba equpiment over to his house and dive his tank. I'd even clean his glass for him just for the privilege.

I know it's not your nation but a guy over here in the UK has a 1500G setup.
It's in the back of TRA vol2.......small tho compared to 4000g!

Wow... that 4000g tank is really out of this world. Man... that guy needs a job... he's got too much time on his hands! His tank is the BOMB! Can't hate the guy because he has so much time to have fun.

You know though, I am in the early planning stages on building my next house/home, and I already have laid out the plans, and dimensions to include a tank like his downstairs... Well maybe only 1/4 of the size of his, 1000 gals would be more than enough right?

but Mr 4000 should get the credit for the idea...

...That and my wife who said one big tank would be better than the 8 small ones I have.

i would think even 1000 gallons would be suitable. You gotta keep in mind how much it will cost to not only stock the tank but also keep it up.

He just got in a 20# clam for his tank.....

I remember someone saying that they were working on an outdoor aquarium in Hawaii. For some reason I thought it was going to be 20,000 to 30,000 gal. There was a delay though. They couldn't find a was to stock it due to collection bans. Finally they decided to try and add water after a coral spawn to "seed" the tank.

Hi,

"The Waikiki aquarium"

The display you mean is "The edge of the reef" 26600ltr/7000g exhibit.
Est 1987. NSW enters the system at 600gph and overflows to the ocean as well as sand filters".

Pics and some of this text are in TRA Vol 2 ,p456.

website is at........www.mic.hawaii.edu/aquarium

Question

thanks atkins but i beleive it was a private tank. I remeber giong to the website and i dont think it looked like the waiikiki aquarium.

theres also a 5million dollar house in Miami that has an indoor 25,000 gallon pool that has been converted to a reef. and guests can snorkel or scuba dive to view it thats the only catch there are no windows ...

I found this

"I know someone in Hawaii who is in the beginning stages of an outdoor 1,193,000 gal. Tank/pond dimensions: 250'long x 80' wide x 8' deep. Yes those are feet! The area is 1/2 acre. It will be stocked entirely with captive-bred animals, corals, rock, and sand. The project is in the planning stages now and should be done in 2-3 years. With any luck he will let me dive in it."

hare is the link. Its about 1/2 way down the page.
