small dark bubbles (eggs?) on a rock

    Hi

I've posted a picture of 3 small dark bubbles (or eggs) on a rock in my tank. Can someone please tell me what it is and if I have to worry about it?

    Thanks!

I thought I might find the photos in your private albums, and I was right next time post them in with your post so everybody can see them. It's not a clear photo but it's clear enough yes that's bubble algae.Your best bet is to get a syringe and suck out the spores then remove the rest of the bubble.

Thats bubble algae. You should remove it. Don't pop it. If the bubbles are mature, it will have spores inside which will cause it to spread. Try to remove them with your fingers, if they won;t come off, remove the rock, and remove them outside of the tank..rince the rock in a pan or bucket of your tank water, then, but discard the water, and return the rock.

There is another thread going right now about the same issue.

EDIT: Just saw Steves reply. I have not used a syringe.....and I don't totally disagree with it , but I don't think you can suck the bubble dry (completely empty), and you may end up releasing a small amount of spores during the final removal when you grab it with your fingers (via squeezing it).

    Good luck.

I swim with them, eat them, catch them, care for them, but never get tired of "them"....

Thank you for the suggestion. I'm new (obviously) to the forum and didn't realize I could attach the picture to the post.

Thanks again and Happy New Year!

Re: small dark bubbles (eggs?) on a rock

Well, I took the rock out of the tank and removed the bubbles. Good thing too, because 2 of the 3 bubbles bursted! I pulled them off, rinsed the rock real good in some tank water and put it back in.

    Thanks, everyone, for the advice.
